Register on e-zone

Teachers

Use the Cyber Homework, Online Training, CLIL, Culture and Teacher’s Resource sections to revise and consolidate all the English your students have learnt during the course. The site is full of interactive, written, visual and auditory exercises to complete and mark online.

Log onto Helbling e-zone using your current username and password. If you do not have these, you will need to register. Enter a valid mail address in your registration. You will receive a mail containing a link. Click on the link and you will be logged automatically into your new account.

Students

Students whose account is set up by their teacher should enter the Name and Password given to them by their teacher in the top right hand corner.
This will activate the Online Training, CLIL and Culture exercises.
Use the code from the inside front cover of your Student’s Book to activate Cyber Homework.

Self-study students should register below. Enter a valid mail address in your registration. You will receive a mail containing a link. Click on the link and you will be logged automatically into your new account.
If you are already registered with Helbing E-zone, enter your Name and Password as usual to access the Online Training, CLIL and Culture exercises. Use the code from the inside front cover of your Student’s Book to activate Cyber Homework.

We are constantly working to make Helbling e-zone better and more useful for you. Here you will find descriptions of the most important features, and suggestions on how to make the best use of them.

To manage your Account settings, click on next to your name on the top right of the screen.

Selecting a course This is the list of all your courses. When you select a course you can see and manage all the materials and people in it.

Creating a new course To create a new course, enter a name for the course and click on +. Then when you select it you can add materials, teachers and students to it.

Teachers in Austria: to create a new course, select the subject, enter a name for the course and click on +.

Finding your course ID Select your course: your course ID is the black strip above the course menu.

Managing your course material Click on COURSE to see the list of materials you are using in a course.

Click on + to add new material to the course. You can choose from locked materials related to your course book. To unlock locked materials you need the code provided in your book.

Click on - to remove materials from your course.

Click on Start to access all the material available for the course book.

Giving students access to a course Make sure your students have a Helbling e-zone account.
If they don’t:
  • ask them to go to HELBLING E-ZONE HOMEPAGE > REGISTER AS STUDENT and follow the instructions;
  • if they can’t, please go to STUDENT LISTS and create the accounts for them.
If your students manage their accounts, they need to send you a request with this course ID to join it. You can:
  • give the course ID to your students;
  • OR print and distribute the invitations;
The requests will appear under Requests to join your course. When you receive the request, click on + to accept it.

If you don’t want to receive and accept requests for access, go to the COURSE SETTINGS Managing your course settings and for Give students direct access to this course select ON.

If you manage your students’ accounts, go to MANAGE COURSES > Students to add them to the course.

Working with other teachers You can manage courses with other teachers with Team teaching. All the teachers in a course have access to it, can assign homework to the students, check the results and exchange messages with everybody in the course.

The Course teachers section shows the teachers who are in the course. It could be you only.

To remove a teacher from your course, click on -.

If you want to pass your course to another teacher in the list, remove yourself from the list. You will lose access to it and all course results. The course will remain open and the remaining teacher(s) and students will continue to work on it.

To add teachers to your course, find their name in the list on the right and click on +.

Course students

The Course students section shows the students/student lists in the course.
To remove a student/list of students from a course, click on -.
To move a student to another course, click on -> and enter the course ID. You can find the course ID using the function.

Add students

There are two ways to add students to a course:
  1. if your students manage their accounts, they need to send you a request with this course ID to join it. You can:
    • give the course ID to your students;
    • OR print and distribute the invitations;
    The requests will appear under Requests to join your course. When you receive the request, click on + to accept it. The student will appear in the Course students list;
  2. If you manage your students’ accounts, find your student list or your student’s name in the lists on the right, and click on +. Your selection will appear in the Course students list.

Monitoring Here you can see which of your students is online, which course material they are using at the moment and if there are course results available already. To contact a student currently online, click on Send a message.

To create a new note click on +.
To open a note, click on it.

Printing a report A report lists the course materials, course settings, teachers, students and your own resources related to it.

Managing your course settings The Course settings have two options: on Managing your course settings and off Managing your course settings.
  • To access a course, your students simply enter the course ID in the appropriate page (on), or they enter the course ID and you will automatically receive an access request from each student. If you agree, you need to accept them (off).
  • You can receive email alerts when a student sends you a request to join a course (on), or a notification at the top of the screen and in the Invite students section of your course. (off);
  • Helbling e-zone creates a new note for each student automatically (on), or you create one manually (off);
  • You can allow students to send you messages (on), or only to reply to messages from you (off);
  • Students receive feedback immediately at the end of an activity and repeat it until they do it correctly (on) or after the deadline for the homework (off).

Renaming or deleting a course Go to your course Managing your course settings to rename or to delete a course.
Delete a course deletes the materials, all the contributions from the students and all the activity results.

Use student lists to create students’ accounts.

IMPORTANT:
  • Only create lists and accounts for students who cannot create their own account.
    Students who can, should go to HELBLING E-ZONE-HOMEPAGE > REGISTER AS STUDENT and follow the instructions.
  • Do not create accounts for students who already have one.

Creating a new student list Create a new list to create new students’ accounts. Enter a name for the list (e.g. class name) and click on +.

Creating student accounts Remember: Only create accounts for students who cannot create their own account and who do not have an account already.

To create an account, enter your student’s last and first names, then click on the Password field. You can accept or change the password. Click on +: Helbling e-zone will create a user name. Then click on Save.

Give each student their user name and password.

If you have students with the same first and last name, turn ON the option With student numbers: Helbling e-zone will assign a different number to each student to identify them.

To remove a student from a list, click on +. If you remove a student from a list, the student will keep their account, but you will lose access to their log-in details.

Please note: you will be able to manage the students’ accounts you created until the students enter their email addresses in their account settings. If they do that, only they will be able to manage their account settings, change the password, etc.

Team teaching with student lists You can create a team of two or more teachers and manage a student list with other teachers in your school who have a Helbling e-zone account. The teachers in a team can share access to it, assign homework to students, check the results and share messages with the students.

To create a teaching team, select the teachers from the list on the right and click on +.

Their name will appear in the list on the left.

To remove a teacher from a teaching team, click on +.

Printing a student list Click on Printing a report to print a student list and give each student their log-in details.

Renaming student lists To rename a student list, select the list from the list on the right, click on Managing your course settings and on Rename student list. Enter the new name and click on Confirm.

Deleting student lists To delete a student list, select the list from the list on the right, click on Managing your course settings, then on Delete student list and on OK. If you delete a list, the students in it will keep their accounts, but you will lose access to their log-in details.

Adding new student accounts using csv If you want to create student accounts using a CSV file, create a list, select it, and click on Managing your course settings. Then follow these instructions exactly:
  • Create a CSV file from a spreadsheet or click on Export student list to download a template.
  • Enter all the data into the first cell of each line, one line per student, with no spaces.
  • The first cell in the first line must be:
    Lastname;Firstname;Username;Password
  • In all the other lines, enter the students’ details in the same order, each element in quotes and separated by a semicolon, no spaces. For example:
    Lastname;Firstname;Username;Password
    “Smith”;”James”;”james-smith”;”kaki88264”
    Use one line per student.
  • If you are using student numbers, the first line should be: Number;Lastname;Firstname;Username;Password
    and the students’ details should be, for example:
    “34127”;“Smith”;”James”;”james-smith”;”kaki88264”
  • Use at least 6 characters for each password.
  • Save the file on your computer, then click on Import student list, select the file and click on Confirm.

Exporting student lists using CSV files If you want to create a CSV file of a student list, select the list, click on Managing your course settings and on Export student list. This will download the CSV file to your computer.

If you have already created accounts for your students in the list, the file will contain your student list.

If you haven’t created accounts, the file will only contain the text in the first cell of the first line, and the rest will be blank. You can use the file as a template.

Link student lists to a course When you manage your students’ accounts, you can assign a course to individual students or to all the students in a student list.

Go to MANAGE COURSES, select the course and click on STUDENTS.

Select the individual students or the student lists on the right of the page and click on +.

Ordering and filtering messages You can order and filter your conversations using the menus on the left.

To find a specific text in your messages, enter it in Search and click on .

Viewing a list of all conversations The Conversations section shows all your messages grouped by subject. Every item shows subject, sender, receivers and the date of the last message in the conversation. Blue squares identify teachers, yellow squares identify students.

Click on - to mark a conversation.
Click on - to remove a conversation. If you remove a conversation, you will not receive any more messages about it (even if the other receivers continue it).
Click on a subject to see all the messages in the conversation (in a new screen).
Click on - to create a new message (in a new screen).

Creating a message Your list of contacts includes all your students and student lists automatically. You can add teachers on the MESSAGES page.

To select the receivers, click on one or more contacts in your lists.

Enter the subject of the message.

Write your message in the text field. You can format the text.

Click on Send.

Managing your contacts Click on - to add a new contact; then enter their message address in the dialogue box.
Click on - to create a new message for this contact.
Click on - to remove a contact from your list.

To manage your own message address, go to
Account settings > Message address

Reading messages in a conversation You can order and filter all messages in a conversation using the menus on the left.

Click on - to mark a message.
Click on - to delete a message.
Click on Message read to mark the message as read. See at the bottom of each message whether students have read the message or not.
Click on Reply to reply to all the people on the Receivers list.

Profile Your first and last name appear in the list of registered teachers. Your colleagues can add you as a team teacher to a course.

Only teachers who share the same school number appear in the list of teachers and can collaborate in team teaching. If your school does not have a number, agree one with the teachers in your school and make sure you all enter it in your respective Profile.

Message address Use Messages to contact teachers and students in your school registered on Helbling e-zone.

Follow the instructions to create your message address and enter it here. Click on Check to see if it is valid.
IMPORTANT: if you change or delete your message address, you will be removed from all contact lists of teachers and students.

User interface Select your time zone. Helbling e-zone uses it for the deadlines for your students’ homework. Make sure that your students select the correct time zone.

Select your interface language. Helbling e-zone automatically applied it to the student accounts you create, but your students can change it.

Log in You can change your email address and your password. Your new email address is also your new user name.

Delete account Delete my account deletes all your courses, resources and messages permanently.
